What is GFH and what does it specialise in?
The company GFH was founded in 1991. GFH is an abbreviation for "Gesellschaft für Haarästhetik" [company for hair aesthetics]. Our main concern is to find individual solutions for men, women and children who suffer from having thin, sparse or a complete absence of hair. Throughout Europe we are now established and recognised in the world of real hair technology sector as an innovative company and toupee / hair replacement manufacturer.
What are GFH’s values?
When developing our products, our main focus is on comfort and natural appearance. Anyone who suffers from hair loss would like to know that their "new hair" is very similar to their own in terms of colour, volume, cut, etc. and that they can pursue their usual activities and hobbies without any concerns.
Why choose ContactSkin® ?
In the '50s and '60s there were many people who wore toupees. At the time, this type of hair replacement had a heavy, rigid substructure and a large quantity of hairs was knotted in to the base. Even the best hairstylist could only style it into a moderately natural looking wig. The result was that most people could tell it was a hair replacement and it was even sometimes worn as a status symbol by the well salaried as a statement.
Then in the 1970s, considerably lighter toupees were made from artificial fibres. These almost completely ousted the real hair companies. “Easy care and affordable” were the powerful sales arguments for synthetic toupees.
With the demise of the long-haired Beatles era and the trend for sporty short hairstyles, hair replacement systems also had to become shorter, lighter and more natural.
Ende der 90iger Jahre ging dann ein völlig neuer Frisurentrend durch alle Medien: Man rasierte sich freiwillig seinen Haarschopf ab oder kürzte ihn auf lächerliche 5 Millimeter. Statt dessen trug „Mann“ einen frechen 3-Tagesbart, piercte sich einen Ohrring ins Ohrläppchen oder gönnte sich eine Designerbrille. Fertig war der „Look“. Gerade die Jüngeren besiegten so jegliche Sorge um fehlende Haarpracht oder frühzeitige, tiefe „Geheimratsecken“. Was früher militärischer Zwang war und später „Skinheads“ auszeichnete, wurde auf einmal gesellschaftsfähig. Vorbilder wie Bruce Willis, Andre Agassi oder David Beckham (um nur wenige zu nennen) machten es vor, wie lässig und cool man damit leben kann und viele folgten ihrem Beispiel.
Zugegeben, manch einer sah mit diesem Style tatsächlich gut aus. Aber nicht jeder hat von Natur aus einen wohlgeformten Kopf, ohne Specknacken, fehlendem Hinterkopf etc. Haare akzentuieren das Gesicht und runden das Erscheinungsbild harmonisch ab. Fehlen sie - besonders an der Stirn - verlängert sich automatisch des Gesicht und die Proportionen stimmen nicht mehr.
The hair replacement sector needed to find an answer for this trend for casual, sporty hairstyles. For all those who felt naked with a shaved head but felt they looked ridiculous or simply felt ill at ease with one of the usual toupees. We needed something that looked as if it was growing from the scalp and suited every occasion and would not cause embarrassment; as unobtrusive as a contact lens.
